I will only use the word soda if I’m on the Jersey shore. Otherwise? It’s POP to me.

  1. Meh. I’m originally from Illinois, and I call it soda. As an adult, I’ve lived in Iowa and (now) Minnesota, both of which use the term “pop,” but I still hold on to my home dialect. It’s “soda,” always has been and always will be (and people around me usually start to call it soda, too, since I tend to be so adamant about it myself.) So not all of us Midwestern peeps call it pop! *winks*

  2. In Philly we say soda (same as the shore, since everyone there is from Philly anyways). My sister in Erie? Pop. Down south with my relatives in TN and ATL? Coke. Doesn’t matter if it is RC, Pepsi or generic, they still call it coke. Funny, eh?

  3. You’ve got that right!!

My oldest sister, who now lives an hour outside of NYC and works in CT, now calls it “soda.” I was telling her that since she lived her formative years in Ohio, she should call it “pop,” with that special Midwestern twang.

She’s gone and gotten all uppity on us! HAR-UMPH!

  4. Psst; I’ll be in Philly next month.
