While the dream may not be alive in full force or in all places, it’s rockin’ in it’s own way in this family.

Three Kids

And yes, that’s an old picture. Last March. We’ll be visiting in just over two weeks… which means tons of new pictures. That said, old or new, it still represents how we’re living King’s dream in our own way… despite the dirty looks or rude comments. These actual brothers and sister get to play and hold hands because of the work done by previous generations. There’s still a bunch of work to be done.

Maybe my Grandchildren will reap the benefits of some of our work. No?

I think they will get to reap the rewards, thanks to people like you that help to blur the lines and teach others about things bigger than mere tolerance. Like acceptance, for example.

It’s hard to believe there are still people who make rude comments.

I can’t wait to see more pictures!

I remember when my daughter was in pre-k. One of her teachers was a white lady and one was a black lady. One day my daughter came home and said that Mrs. Peaches and Mrs. Sara Jane were inside out. Now, as you can imagine, I was a little bit confused. Jenna proceeded to explain to me in her little condescending voice that Mrs P was brown on the outside but had white inside (she had light palms) and that Mrs. SJ was white on the outside and had brown spots (freckles) so they were the same but inside out backwards to each other. I found this highly amusing and shared it with her teachers the next day. They too thought it was funny.

Children today see things so differently. To them, color is a much less important factor than what type of music the other kids are listening to. Our grandkids will be even more open and accepting. I can’t wait for it to happen!

That is a very special photo!! We have come along way, but I still see prejudice in my town, and I do not understand it. I applaud you for your efforts to make people see we are all just the same!

We can only hope that our grandchildren will see the fruits of our blended families. How nice it is to imagine being old and creaky and sitting them on my knee, telling them, “It may seem hard to believe, but in my day …”

(Oh — and a visit in 2 weeks? Super excited for you! Looking forward to any details you choose to share — and pictures of your beautiful children together. And, ya know, if you’re doing the traveling, is NYC on your agenda again this time? I’m between the two cities…)
