You may remember that my younger brother is getting married this coming August. My future sister-in-law has asked me to be in the wedding. She has picked a beautiful dress for us bridesmaids, all of varying shape and size, to wear. The decision has been finalized. I have the information to go to David’s Bridal and be touched in places that I don’t want to be touched to get measured for this dress.
Yeah. Because that’s what I want to do just about two months after giving birth.
Truth be told, I have no idea when to get measured for this dress so it can be ordered in time for the wedding. I don’t want to procrastinate too long in hopes of losing a bunch of weight before I even step into the dress. I also don’t want to buy the dress four sizes too big and have to have repeated alterations as the weight comes off. Also, as a current breastfeeding Mother with no plans to stop before a year and, thus, planning on breastfeeding come the wedding, I don’t know what size my chest will be by then either! So, I have known inch changes coming in my chest, waist and hips which are all rather important areas for dress fitting.
What should I do? When is too late to get fitted for a dress both for arrival purposes and so I don’t drive the bride nuts by worrying her that my dress won’t arrive? Beyond that, it’s a dress. Not a two piece. I am totally not proportional in my measurements right now. Which means that they would have to order a bigger size. And I don’t like bigger sizes.
I asked them to postpone, just for me. But they didn’t dig that idea. So, August it is. In the end, it also doesn’t matter. I’ll be making the bride look great even if I hit my goal weight by their wedding. Why? She’s a beanpole. I will never be a beanpole again. Such is life.
Though I do think I’m going to look smashing in that color… and hopefully the dress itself. Don’t you think?

I have absolutely no idea how one manages to get a bridesmaid dress so soon after a having a baby. The fit nightmares are truly a nightmare! I think I’d call David’s Bridal and make them commit to a cutoff date for sizing. The longer you can wait, the better off you’ll be, but I’m sure they will be of no help.
At least it’s a pretty dress!

We had a similar dress issue with my SIL. She was a bridesmaid in our wedding at about six months postpartum. We ordered the dress about four months before to make certain it would ship with plenty of time for alterations. Then she had a fitting about a month before where they better altered the dress.
It’ll work out. And the dress is gorgeous!

Hey! I’m in the same boat! I am a bridesmaid in my cousins wedding in September!
I hope Davids bridal will let you hold off on sizing.. My cousin hasn’t decided on what dresses we’re going to wear so i’m hoping its something simple!
The dress you’re wearing is the same dress my bridesmaids wore in my wedding in 2006
I love that dress!
You will awesome in that color
I would call DB and see what their recommendation is – I found that the quality of the service varies widely between stores, so if you don’t find someone helpful, see if they have another store in your area. Also, I have herd better things about buying the dress too big and having it altered off-site by your local seamstress, than waiting for DB to alter it (especially if it needs to be altered multiple times, and on a deadline). Again, that probably varies store to store though.
Beautiful dress. DB offered a very similar wedding dress a few years back which my best friend wore. Ella was 6 months old at the time, and (luckily?) she did not decide on a dress for us to wear until the weekend before (oh what a mess) so I didn’t have to worry about sizing changes. Well, except on the other two dresses I bought in the months leading up to the wedding. *eye roll*

I don’t have a clue, just a story. My sister decided to get married when I was pregnant. The problem was we were not even in the same state. She picked a dress to accomodate my belly, but to make sure it would fit. The first she mailed was huge and the second was a bit snug. Thank goodness my MIL is an excellent seamstress and was able to find every possible way to give me more belly room.
By the time the wedding arrived the dress JUST fit…barely.
I was 8 months preggars in my brother’s wedding. They were gonna get married a year later. I wish they did, I would have had a nine month old and would have AT LEAST been down a few lbs. But noooooo. They weren’t changing their minds. So I wore a tent.
You will look GREAT in that color and don’t worry about the size. It has to be a bigger size so it can fit your massive mommy boobs. They can alter the rest down!
Beautiful! As for fit, ask the David’s Bridal people for advice; they must deal with this every day!
And ya know what? Beanpole or not, you are gonna rock that dress, Little Mama. Take pictures!

Like I said in my comment on Flickr, I wore that same dress in a wedding last year. I ordered it about 3 months before the wedding and was fitted about a month before. Hopefully, the DB near you can work in the same time frame so you’ll have the perfect fit

Just ask David’s Bridal for the latest date to order the dress to have it arrive about two months ahead of time. Order a little big; then you have plenty of time to get it altered. It shouldn’t be too hard to find an alterer who will be able to get it ready for you in the last month or so, especially one who does it part time or works out of his/her home.
Like mentioned before, call DB and see when the latest you can order it will be. They actually have a lot of dressed in stock but once they are discontinued it can be a pain getting them from other stores (that is what I did for my wedding). You also could ask if you could wear a different 2 piece style in the same color. That is one of the great things about DB, they have many styles that go well together.

Lots of David’s Bridal stuff is in the store on their racks – so I bet you could hold off until a month or so before the wedding.
[...] wedding in August and tell you that The Tea Diet combined with normal exercise got me into that bridesmaid dress and made me feel awesome. I guess that will be my “final” review at that time. Until [...]
Leave it to the pros! Go try one on now. See what size it is. Keep that in mind for your chest, and expect your waist to be smaller and hopefully hips/rear.
My SIL had 2 nursing moms as bridesmaids in her wedding. THe babies were about 8 months old at the time. One swore she’d get down to a certain size, and we BARELY got her dress zipped up. The other figured she’d not lose as much as she wanted, and hers ended up almost too loose…. You just never know.
My one big word of advice – DON”T SKIP THE NURSING PADS… One of them didn’t want to mess w/ it in her strapless bra, and OOPS.. By the end of the reception, she was wet…

I agree with Jess. See what is the latest you can order it and still have it by early June, then then take it to a seamstress. That’s what I did for Jess’ wedding and it worked out pretty well.
