Both of my children are in their own bedrooms, in their own beds, taking their very own naps. At the same time. Almost exactly at the same time as I put BigBrother in his bed first and then nursed and rocked LittleBrother to sleep. I’m beside myself with glee, though I know as soon as I get smug about this, they will wake up grumpy, grouchy and demanding of my time. Such is parenthood.

So, what should I do with this hypothetical hour? I could:

Fold the clean diaper laundry (which finished this morning). Start reading a new book as I finished two yesterday. Update my Goodreads list with those two books. Read the (*checks number in reader*) 1000+ (yes) new posts in my Google Reader. Eat lunch, seeing as how it is 2:25pm and all I have consumed today is three cups of coffee, a peanut butter granola bar, a cheese stick and 32 ounces of water. Nap. Clean the bathroom. Figure out what I’m making for dinner. E-mail my best friend to see what the doctor said today. E-mail my Mom and tell her to stop sending me links to stories like this because they only make me panic. Speaking of panic, call my therapist to set up an appointment. Pump. Take a shower since I did the Gross Mom thing this morning and just pulled my hair up and went about my day. I could, you know, work since I’m a WAHM. Upload pictures to flickr. Order a new nursing bra. Clean the living room toy explosion. Go downstairs to the in-progress playroom and put in some work organizing the mess that currently exists. Nap. Empty the dishwasher. Throw another load of clothes in the wash. Sun out a stain in the orange diaper. Update the pictures in picture frames. Send a few thank you notes. Nap. Play Wii. Nap. Nap. NAP.

Or! Or! I could just sit here and enjoy this BLISSFUL SILENCE. Wow. Shh.

  1. Uhm, I do the gross mom thing pretty much every day.

    Hope you enjoy the quiet!

  2. Naptime is one of the most blissful times as a parent. Enjoy every second! The chores will wait!

  3. I’ve totally stopped doing “chores” during the afternoon naps. I should…I say this everyday. But then I can talk myself out of anything and “me” time takes precedent. The house is usually a wreck and telephone calls need to be made, but I am SUCH a happier mommy for the rest of the day. Enjoy the silence!

  4. I usually choose nap. I know I could get so much done but I feel the quite time and rest really helps me.

Not that I get very much because anymore I get Baby Bum to sleep and then Lil’ Bum finally drifts off and Baby Bum wakes up again.

  5. Two kids taking their naps at the same time? I don’t think this has EVER happened to me. You are one lucky woman. :)
