If you’ve been reading for some time, you know that FireDad stalked a Nintendo Wii for quite some time. After his successful hunting, we became somewhat addicted. Really, and somewhat strangely, it’s become a great bonding activity for the two of us in the evenings after the two brothers go to bed. It should not Wii are Fit!surprise you that I then pre-ordered Wii Fit from Amazon.

Originally set to release on May 19th and pushed back to May 21st, I was initially excited when my Wii Fit shipped on the original date of May 19th. But then it sat around for awhile, not making any progress until the 21st and did not make it here until today, four days after the initial shipment notice. This is especially aggravating as we are Amazon Prime members and, as such, get Two-Day Shipping on all orders at no “extra” cost. (We pay a flat rate, once a year.) So, of course, being the … nag-type … that I am, I e-mailed Amazon. They credited our account $5.00. I feel somewhat vindicated.

Moving on to how we’re liking the Wii Fit after two hours of play.

DUDE. LOVIN’ IT! Okay, I’m mostly just saying that because of the following reasons:

  1. I weigh less than I thought I did!
  2. My BMI is actually in the normal/healthy range though I still could stand to use a few pounds!
  3. I have “great posture” according to my personal trainer. (I chose the female trainer.)
  4. My first day Wii Fit age? TWENTY-SEVEN! Yeah, my ACTUAL age! It’s like I “WIN” at Wii Fit on my very first attempt. WOOHOO!
  5. AND? I’m YOUNGER (!) than FireDad (which is opposite of real life ages). WOO!

All that said? Dang. It’s hard stuff! Don’t let the negative reviews in which people say “you can’t get fit sitting in front of a TV, go outside, you lazy bums,” sway you. Now, I’ve never done yoga (though once we join the gym, I will be doing it weekly) but, whoa! Those poses are hard to do. The benefit of the Wii Fit for first time yoga “users” is that it shows you how to keep your center of balance with a little circle and if you sway, bend too far or move around, you can see that with your own little red dot. So I “know” that I’m doing the pose “right” when my dot stays inside of the circle. Awesome.

Also? I rock at Hula-Hooping but not so much soccer heading. FireDad is digging the ski events and some of the balance games as well.

We set our weight loss goals. (Though, technically FireDad doesn’t need to lose weight, he just needs to tone!) We’re both aware, as we are intelligent adults, that weight loss isn’t done just in front of the television. It also involves food consumption, healthy sleep (meaning, don’t play Wii Fit (or any Wii games) until 3am!) and a host of other things. But this? This is a nice way to keep track of progress. We’re still joining the gym. I’ll still be taking almost daily walks with both boys in the double stroller. I’ll still be drinking 64(+!) ounces of water per day. I’ll still be watching my food intake and attempting to make healthy food choices. (Uh, minus this weekend. Primanti Bros. at the Pirates game for Fire Fighter’s night! Will you be there?) But this is just an added thing to help me (us) achieve our goals.

Plus? Yay fun!

  1. I saw those at the game store at the mall yesterday and was really tempted! Still tempted, you enabler, you. Glad it’s getting you both motivated!

  2. I might have to go out and get one now!

  3. Our Wii Fit balance board doesn’t accurately measure our weight. On Wednesday, it was about 4-5 pounds under. Yesterday, it told me that I had lost 7 pounds since the previous day.

Other than that, we are loving it too. I have to get the right picture before I can make a blog post exclaiming our love though. :)

  4. I am so jealous of your Wii Fit. I must have one!

I’ve been meaning to ask you — have you seen these cute outfits from Gymboree? They are currently having a big sale and every time I see the firetruck outfits I immediately think of you and your boys.

I don’t know if they are your taste or not, but I felt the need to share. :)

  5. So wanting to go buy a WII Fit right now! Might have to find a Memorial Day sale somewhere and indulge! Thanks for your thoughts on the Fit!

  6. Aw, Jamie. That stuff is super cute but all out of stock except the striped socks! BUMMER! I have money to burn, too!

  7. We just got a wii fit today. My kids and hubby have all been playing on it while I’ve been doing other things. I must get on it tonight though!
Glad you like it! And I’m here through blogher.

  8. I LOVE our Wii Fit! I’ve been using it daily for the past 5 days. Got it on the first day they went on sale…walked into WalMart at 9am, picked one off the shelf. What luck, considering I hadn’t even *thought* about doing a “pre-order”. The tooth fairy brought it for our daughter, that night. I know…sort of a big heavy thing for the tooth fairy to bring, but, hey…saved me $5. lol

It’s fun, and I can feel muscles I’d forgotten I had. I’m bad at most of the balance games, and my Wii Fit age varies from 47 – 60 (my *real* age is 49). I like fun exercise…maybe I’ll stick with this one. :-)

  9. First I was like, I am so getting this and then the reviews came out and I was like, I am so not getting this. And then I read this review and then I thought maybe I might get it. Such tough decisions! :)
