My Boys in the Lake

As I talked about on Monday before we left and showed a sneak peek of yesterday, we went to The Lake on Monday. It was a lovely morning. Everything worked together for good and, at the very least, FireDad and I will have some lasting memories. LittleBrother isn’t bound to remember how he fell asleep in my arms as I stood hip deep in the lake, swaying back and forth. BigBrother won’t likely remember slowly getting more and more brave and eventually wading out to his chest (while holding Daddy’s hand, of course).

Posing With Mommy

And they won’t remember how every time FireDad lifted BigBrother out of the water, BigBrother yelled, “There’s trunks,” referring to the fact that he could now see his swim trunks. He’s probably grateful that he won’t remember the two times his trunks had to be pulled back up over his bare behind. And LittleBrother won’t remember sitting, for the first time, in the sand between my legs, smooshing his toes in the wet sand and splashing in the water around our legs. Nor will he remember that very first fistful of sand. And he won’t remember nursing under our beach umbrella as the breeze kept us cool on what was a very, very hot day. And BigBrother won’t remember arguing with us that it was “hot in there” when he meant that it was “hot out here.”

Happy LB; It\'s Really Not a Frown

But perhaps they’ll remember growing up going to The Lake. Perhaps someday they’ll take loved ones or their own families there and say something like, “My Mom and Dad used to drag us out here in the summer. The car ride felt like an eternity because I just wanted to play in the sand. Or water. Or run down the sidewalk at top speed.” Perhaps they’ll make it a regular trip during the summer months with their families. Perhaps they’ll move far, far away (sigh) and find a lake of their own and make their own memories.

Full Body Happy

Hopefully they remember to: take the double stroller (not for the kids but for STUFF), go at 9:00 instead of 10:00 so that lunch time isn’t messed with (thus causing The Grumpies to set in), bring a water carrier for the baby (arms do get tired, ya know), pack the night before (so that they can leave at 9:00 instead of 10:00) and take the cooler (so the water doesn’t get hot!). (Hopefully we’ve learned, too!)

Jealous of BB

It was a lovely morning. At this stage in their lives, two hours is more than enough. We’re hoping to make this a regular occurrence since the city pool is crowded and thus more difficult to navigate with two small children. The peaceful atmosphere provided by our local state park is just what we need at this stage in our lives. Someday, when the boys are older and more social and need to spend time with their friends, the city pool will be sure destination. For now, we’re going to make our memories at The Lake.

And you have one of the most creative domain names. Seriously, very creative!!!

The Hunter’s Wife; You would not believe how long I thought to get that name. Probably two months. I knew I wanted to move the domain to something more anonymous at the beginning of 2008. So, late in 2007 while way-too-pregnant with LB and stuck awake with third trimester insomnia, I would think of names. And one day, it just came to me. FireDad loved it. And my go-to-friend for all things techie agreed that it was perfect.

Beautiful post and great pictures. And while they won’t remember all of this, the memories are captured by their loving mother. :)

Fun times! My hubby just took our guy to the local state park lake yesterday for the first time. And I missed it. Because I was working. Yuck.

glad you were there to get these perfect pics! LOVE the close up of LittleBrother in Daddy’s arms – what’s that tattoo on his chest say? (FireDad’s, not LittleBrother’s)

Thought of you yesterday as I started a new novel – in it, the Dad character if Fire Chief!!! But I couldn’t recommend it to you right now – I’m having too hard of a time reading it (toddler w/ leukemia? Who gave this thing to me and thought I could handle it???)
