We’ve had our Wii Fit for just shy of a month now. I thought I’d update you on our progress and some likes and dislikes that we’ve formed over the past three weeks.
First of all, as with any topic, those who don’t like it really don’t like it, do they? That said, the FireFamily does like the Wii Fit. I will tell you, even though I’m probably going to get a very dirty look, that FireDad even does the Yoga portions and finds them challenging. Yes, the Big, Bad Fire Fighter finds yoga challenging. That said, so do I though I’m much more flexible. Less flexible than I used to be but still more flexible than that guy.
Progress? In three weeks I’ve dropped three pounds below my initial weigh-in. However, I’ve experienced many ups and downs over that time frame. Why? I apparently need to stop going back to The Farm on the weekend(s). For pity’s sake! They must feed me well or something because every Monday just home from The Farm showed a gain of at least three pounds. So, technically, over the past few weeks, I’ve lost three pounds, three times. I’m pretty awesome, no? I’m proud of my progress.
And, that brings me to the one thing I don’t like about Wii Fit: I don’t really want to watch the daily fluctuations in my weight. True, you don’t have to do the Body Test everyday… but the Wii Fit Board YELLS at you. Okay, he doesn’t talk in caps lock. But there’s nothing that inspires more guilt than being told, “It’s been three days, FireMom!” Fluff off, Wii Fit Board! I was busy! For some people, myself included, daily weighing is probably not the best option. It can be frustrating at best and really darn discouraging at worst. Of course, it can also tell you to stop eating like the famine is coming over the weekends. What? Have you eaten Western Pennsylvania food? You’d eat like that, too, when you went back to The Farm. Trust me.
And, still, even though the daily weighing has been somewhat hard to handle, that’s one part of the Wii Fit that has seemingly kept me on track with my “whole picture” weight loss and exercise program. I should really just call it an exercise program because weight loss, while nursing LittleBrother, is not my main focus. Continuing to exercise, daily, is my focus. I’ve been thankful for Wii Fit in that respect. Mainly because that darn Wii Fit Board YELLS at me (without yelling) when I don’t use it.
But I don’t use it everyday. But I am exercising (almost) every day. (Those weekends on The Farm are exercise enough. Ever walked up my parents’ hill? Yeah. Surely that makes up for the food intake. Right?) Right now, if its a rainy day, Wii Fit is my go-to exercise. Also? On those days that it was Blazing Hot? I placed my Wii Fit Board right in front of the air conditioning vent and went about my thing. However, if it’s nice, I am sure to take a two mile walk with the boys in the double stroller. (This is two-fold awesomeness as it gives BigBrother some time to run off some energy if we stop by the playground or, if not, just some nice fresh air before bedtime routines begin.)
There are days, like yesterday, when I would really rather not walk. I wanted to hang out and read the book(s) that I’m reading and just generally be a blob on the couch after the huge Mexican Fiesta dinner that I made… but the thought of the Wii Fit Board yelling at me made me pull out the stroller, put the kids in their seats and hit the road.
If anything, folks, that’s the main reason we love the thing. The motivation has been nice. Really nice. While I’ve only lost three pounds, my body shape has changed over the past three weeks. I once again have a collarbone, my face looks thinner and some more pre-pregnancy pants are fitting over my hips. Life is good.
Some of our favorite games include Super Hula Hoop, Ski Jump, anything yoga and we’re just starting to maneuver snowboarding. Strength training really kicks my butt, especially if it involves a push up. Have you seen my arms? It’s amazing that I can do one push up, let alone multiple ones.
All in all, we’re pleased with our purchase. We’re pleased with the progress. We’ve laughed together as we’ve wiggled around trying to play the games. Wii, in general, still seems to be a bonding agent for me and that FireDad guy. I think I’ll keep it. The Wii Fit, that is… not FireDad. I mean, yes, I’m keeping him, too. That goes without saying.
(PS: Comment on my messy living room and I’ll hit you with my Wii controller.)

Actually, we could use an extra controller. What up with the messy living room? *ducks, grabs controller, runs*
Burgh Baby; OH NO YOU DIDN’T. Besides? I thought you were all ANTI-WII. That said, my living room has since seen a revamp as we’ve rid ourselves of too-young-baby things like the Bumbo (pictured) and the swing (not pictured) which has freed up more room. Also, more toys have made their way downstairs to the playroom. Mmmplayroom.
Ha- you are so funny. Oh how much I’d LOVE to have a Wii Fit! And my hubby has made it known that yoga is MUCH harder than weight training and most any other exercises! LOL!~
Steph
Messy Living room? Where? Honey you ain’t see nothin’ till you see the remnants of the 8 y.o. & the 4 y.o. playing school. We just got a Wii last month. Havin’ a blast. And stalking a Wii Fit.
Have fun!
Had to comment on the “messy livingroom” thing, too! J, I should take a picture of mine at mid-day and send it to you…you’d die! Lol. But my boys are a tad older and that Barney clean-up sond works wonders!!!!
{{{Hugs}}} Glad the WII is doing what you wanted it to (minus the yelling)
What messy living room? I don’t see a messy living room.
Yoga? It is HARD. I had a pilates teacher who told stories of big, tough Navy dudes coming to his classes and being reduced to quivering piles of mush by the end. It might look like a bunch of stretching, but it isn’t for the weak.
So glad that you are enjoying the Wii Fit. You made me kind of want one.
PS: Renee, Barney Clean-Up sound? What is that? Please share! Especially if it makes kids clean up without complaint.
We’ve found that the Little Bill clean-up song is good stuff, too! One, two, zippity-zoo!
If I got a Wii that is all I would probably do.
We don’t have a Wii Fit yet, but we do have a DDR for the Wii and I love it.
I allowed myself to get about 35 pounds overweight. Yuck!!! In October I began an routine of daily exercise and a change in my eating. I lost an average of one pound per week until I took off 30 pounds. Those last 5 pounds just won’t come off. I do weigh in daily. I have to. It’s what keeps me accountable on a daily basis. I play with the same one/two pounds. They come off, go on, every day LOL.
Isn’t it amazing that game system can actually aid us in our weight loss journeys?
You are increasing my extreme Wiilust. Maybe we should just go for it.
I wanted one before I read this.
I want one now.
lots and lots of wantage.
Miz.
Ohhhh, I soooo much want a Wii Fit.. I crave one.. Sadly, the darn things are ALWAYS sold out
One of these days though!
