For the non-firefighters among us, a probie is what other professions label a “rookie.” It’s the new kid on the block. And who is a better new kid on the block than a baby? And so, this week, we’re featuring the best firefighter costumes for those who aren’t yet walking!

I. Am. In. Love. With. This. Costume! If my boys wouldn’t have both been eleven months on Halloween, I totally would have snagged this one for our little probies. Some real benefits to this costume include the warmth factor. I don’t know what the weather is like where you live but we had a heavy frost yesterday morning. And, man, it was cold out! Halloween is still a week and a half away! How much colder can it get? (Don’t answer that.) Your little one will be warm and toasty covered head to toe, literally, in this little uniform. Granted, when you’re buying costumes for the younger set, it’s not really one that’s going to be pulled out for imagination play later but, well, look how cute this is! A definite winner.

This next one isn’t as cute but still ranks high on my list. The hat, which the first one didn’t have, is what puts it on our list. Also, the soft velour? Granted, not very firefighter-esque as I don’t think FireDad has ever worn velour. Ever. But that’s the other thing: velour is nice and warm! To boot, this particular costume has a zip up front! As our youngest firefighters are most likely in need of a diaper change or two whilst being toted along the trick-or-treat trail with their older siblings, ease of access is a must when it comes to costumes!

And for your super smallest firefighters who have just joined the ranks (in general, as in they were just born) here’s a cute firefighter bunting costume. (Anyone else have an ovary twitch? While I’m pretty sure that the hat won’t stay on, again, it should be sure to keep your little one warm. I’m pretty sure that you won’t likely be dragging a two week old on the candy trail but, if you’re like me, you’ll be dressing the youngster up anyway. Start out your small one with hero style!

You obviously don’t need many accessories for newborn firefighters. No boots. No extra fancy hats. No airpacks. Just a costume. And a proud Mommy and/or Daddy to tote the little one around. And possibly another set of hands to take pictures. Upon pictures.

(Also, thanks to Christina for featuring our series on Being Savvy Columbus last week!)

On Mondays through October 27, 2008, I will be highlighting the best of the best when it comes to firefighter costumes and accessories for your children (and maybe even for you). If you are a company with a costume you’d like me to review, please hit me up via the contact form. Otherwise, I’m just picking what I like (and don’t) online.
