Bean loves Cars too and will also be having a Cars-themed birthday party. Here’s our stuff for Christmas and B-day:

We found a Cars battery-operated racetrack with Lightning and Doc at Costco, and I also got him a Lightning blanket (Target).

Also, I ordered a couple of Laurie Berkner CD’s as stocking stuffers and the Jack’s Big Music Show season one DVD; Bean LOVES Laurie and Jack. If you haven’t seen it, check it out on Noggin. Very cute and lots of singing and dancing. Laurie Berkner is my hero.

We got the Grouchy Ladybug game from Target; Bean loves the book.

Also, a Color Wonder (no marker on my sofa! Score!) variety pack from Costco, pajamas, slippers, books and possibly a tricycle. I’m looking for a Thomas railway set too; they seem so expensive, but I guess if he loves it, it’ll be worth it.

I’m planning to get our 3YO a Noodleboro game (comes recommended by a friend. I’ve seen at least 3 in target – apparently they have different kids), for his bday this year his fave gift was a slightly larger Little Tykes adjustable basketball goal and his Thomas track, and we’re not huge electronic toy fans, but he got a great little Thomas the Train laptop, that has about 30 educational games. I love hearing him repeat letters, sounds, words and watching him find his numbers!

@donna: Oh. Well. I hate TS2. I hate most sequels, actually. We don't own ANY except for Star Wars & Indian Jones triologies. All Disney sequels are beyond silly to me. As for the dark humor, he still doesn't even "watch" most of Cars. He mostly plays. I'm not sure I'm worried.

Happy (almost) birthday, Big Brother N!!!!!!! My “little guy” E will be following right behind you into the world of 3s…his birthday is the 23rd.

Regarding “Toy Story”. Might I suggest that “Toy Story 2″ is a little more appropriate choice for a 3 year old. TS is fine, but a little dark, with the “mutant toy” story line, and the evil next door neighbor kid, Sid, who blows them up for fun. Even Woody is a bit too “angry” in this one, for my tastes.

TS2, however, is a delight, and has a wonderful message about the precious nature of our childhood love objects. On the whole, it’s much more positive in nature, more gentle than the first. The whole family can enjoy this one. And I dare you not to cry during Jessie’s song.

We are a big fan of Plan Toys stuff here. DS will be 3 in February and we have already gotten him a few things for his birthday and Christmas including “Animal Dominos” and the cactus balancing game. We have been really pleased with everything we have gotten from that company. I got the click-clack for my 18-month old niece and it looks super cool as well. Plus I like their environmental and employment outlook. It sounds like BB is hitting the birthday motherload though! Nice choices!

I just drove around buying half off princess outfits and fairy outfits (left over from holloween) for my nieces’ Christmas presents as I will present as “Dress up Clothes”. This might be good for boys too.
