I have no way with words today. It is an emotional day for me. But don’t mistake my inability to properly form readable thoughts as a sign of ungratefulness. I am so grateful for and to each of my children. In their own ways, they have made me not just the mother I am but the woman that sits here today. In their own ways, each with their own story, they have helped me write my own story.
And so, today, on my daughter’s fifth birthday, I celebrate her.

I am grateful for her presence, in any way, in my life. Just as I am grateful for the brief presence of the child we lost to miscarriage in 2006. Just as I am grateful for BigBrother and LittleBrother for their daily presence in our lives. They each touch us differently. They each have their own meaning in our lives. But without them, we would not be the family that we are today.
Life is good when you have love any child, for any amount of time, as a mother.

You really lost a child? That’s crazy hard… in a way I cannot possibly understnad.
I’m impressed with your attitude, that’s so nice.
Happy Birthday to your little girl.
And Happy Mothering Anniversary to you.
You have a fabulous attitude about parenting in all the various forms it takes.
This half-adopted kid appreciates hearing about the love of a birth parent.
(((HUGS))) You’re a great mama.

We have entered your contest, so I dropped by to check out your blog. What a great tribute to your 5YO. My son turned 5 in June. I loved the cupcake pics taken in the snow.
I also experienced and can therefore relate to the “brief presence” of children, one through an ectopic pregnancy and the other through miscarriage. I know how difficult it is to think a child is
on its way only to mourn its loss.
Good luck running your contest. It has been fun to run across your blog
through this process. Since we are entering as a community, Carissa Rogers
is writing the comments and such. But, I thought it would be fun to get
to know you as well.
Thanks for giving us the chance to win!
Happy Holidays!
