We are home from our visit with Munchkin and family. I will be discussing specifics of anything open adoption, visit and relationship over on The Chronicles of Munchkin Land later today. For now, I will tell you some lessons that I learned while staying in a mountain house in the middle of January with four very loud children.
1. Don’t forget the booster seat. I mean, sure, LittleBrother sat at the table and ate his meals just fine. But he wanted to get down every now and then to meander simply because he could. It would have also been nice if we could have strapped the two older boys in as they fell out of their chairs a total of five times. Wiggle worms indeed!

2. One awake child equals four awake children. Enough said.
3. Bundling up to go outside on a cold, windy day seems like a good idea to use up some of that energy. But trust me, it’s a bad, bad idea. Cold by itself is fine. Wind by itself is fine. Cold + wind = disaster. We had three crying, angry children by the time we got back to the house. (LittleBrother was fine as he was in the Mei Tai and the Peekaru Vest.)

4. Getting four children to agree on what to eat, when to eat it and then actually eat it for any meal is a task and a half.
5. Do not brag about how well your children traveled to the vacation location. They will repay you on the way home with 55 minutes straight of high pitched screaming.
6. Don’t. Forget. the. Coffee.
7. Having your camera in hand is obviously a necessity. But realize that when you have a total of 799 pictures, they’re going to take awhile to upload.
8. Speaking of uploading, five days without internet will make two mommies twitch.
But seriously, it was a great visit -slash- mini-vacation. The children had a blast playing together, whether inside or out in the snow. (Except for that walk. Man. That was awful!) I had some needed and great bonding time with D and not even all serious stuff. It was nice to laugh with her, to make jokes and to be two friends with four noisy children between them. And on them. And under them.
TheBrothers are now returning to some semblance of a schedule. For those who watched the drama unfold on Twitter, LittleBrother is back in cloth diapers. No horrible reaction to the disposables besides my awful face every time I had to endure the baby powder smell. I have over 300 email which need responded to in the next day or two. That’s right: responded to. I’ve already deleted the spam, internet offers and general junk mail. I’m a bit overwhelmed!
I’ll probably be using pictures from the visit -slash- mini-vacation for Wordless Wednesday, Love Thursday and a few other posts this week, so stay tuned in. Also, I’ll be editing and uploading pictures to our Project365 blog (Stop, Drop & Photograph) after I get caught up on actual work!
All in all, I’m glad we had this visit, this experience. Life sure feels good.

That second picture, outside with you son wearing that hat… is that hat knitted hat? If so, do you have the pattern? I love it!
Very cute pictures!

@Dominique: It’s an infamous “Hudson Hat” and, no, I don’t actually have a pattern. I have no skill in that manner. A friend of mine purchased the rights to make and sell the hat and I was her tester. Here’s are pictures of the hat in general.
With the drama of CSPIA, you might be able to find one on Etsy or Hyenacart on sale as some stores are already shutting down. I do warn you that they are NOT cheap and the only reason I have one is because I was a tester!
I keep seeing previews for Kirk Cameron’s new movie, Fire Proof. And as you’re my go-to source for all things Firefighter, I was wondering if you had an opinion. (It’s not that I’m too lazy to go to imdb, it’s that I trust you more!) But as it is Kirk Cameron, I’m assuming it’s got an uber-Christian slant on it. Not that that’s a bad thing, just something I’d be aware of heading in if it were worth seeing. /ramble. Thoughts?

@Lady: We have not yet seen it because we’re horrible at actually seeing movies. HORRIBLE. That said, my mother did. Yes, there is a Christian slant. But there’s lots of fire as well. I can’t give any more of a review than that because it’s all that I have retained from what my Mother said.
I really should get on watching that, shouldn’t I?
So glad ou had a nice trip. I was thinking of you while you were on this trip.

On a totally unrelated topic – do you happen to have a 3 – 6mos or 6 – 9 mos Steelers shirt/jersey you would consider letting me buy from you that Baby Sister could wear on Sunday do you? I cannot find one for a reasonable price

@Upstatemomof3: It is possible that I have already passed those on but I will check first thing in the morning. No need to “buy.” I’d pass it on happily if I can find one!
