My kids are older now and I'm just so tired of every holiday being about spending money. I too went very low budget this year. Guess what? Not a single complaint from either one, not even a blink. lol

I've also nominated you for an attitude of gratitude award. You can see the details :) Thank you for your blog! http://workingwahm.com/2009/04/12/attitude-gratitude-award/

Of course you're right that it's about what you do as a family and not how much you spend on a basket. And it seems you have put together a bunch of nice gifts and activities on a budget anyway. My childhood Easter memories are all of church, grandparents, egg hunts, and delicious Polish food. :-) I hope you enjoy the weekend!

We are also doing a cheap Easter. I have about $5 worth of gifts in each basket along with filling baby sisters basket with big sisters bunny stuffed animals that she never played with. I told all grandparents - no. stuffed. animals! I do not remember getting an Easter basket as a child so this does not bother me. We will hunt eggs with neighborhood kids, again at Nana's house, go to church and make resurrection cookies. I am trying to focus on Christ but you are so correct that it is difficult to explain to a 3 year old.

Ha, this is the first year I have ever bought myself a new Easter dress (usually it's too darn cold and I end up wearing nice pants anyway), and I consider myself lucky to get Adam to church on Easter morning, so I don't even sweat what he's wearing and I don't think the kiddos have ever matched. I can NEVER find anything for Conner.

and after much hemming and hawing and sighing and cussing and throwing away cheap crap, we've started to draw the line at what grandparents (and us!) can put in their baskets. This year I got them each a kite, a big thing of bubbles and some brand new sidewalk chalk. Of course there will be some candy, but not a lot, cause I only like to buy the good stuff and then I'm too cheap to share!

Happy Easter FireFamily, may it be truly blessed.

I always have to remind myself to calm down about the volume of candy. You know what I found (finally) that works for me? I remind myself that whatever I buy, eventually they're going to have to eat it. Or, worse, *I* will eat it! Suddenly, how full the baskets look doesn't seem as important. I bought them each a jump rope (aka, a handy dandy weapon for when Mom's not looking), a thing of bubbles, and a small thing of sidewalk chalk, all from the dollar bin. And I carried on the tradition my mom started when we outgrew Easter baskets - I bought them each a book. But my rule is that it all has to fit in the Easter basket. That also helps me scale back when it comes time to buy all the goodies!

Sounds like you are going to have a really fun, family-filled Easter! (And don't worry about the colors...you can print your pics in b&w or photoshop them!)

Ok, why are you cracking me up! We banned the grass, too. Our 2 then decide the grass is more fun than the stuff on top of it! So, no thanks. No matching outfits....now I am rolling. You sound like me. I am not sure I could handle that one just yet!

As I reminded my 5yo this week..."The bunny isn't as generous as Santa Claus" Lol. Don't feel too bad for not overflowing their baskets. We don't do candy, either, so I am going to bake off those cute Pillsbury "Bunny" sugar cookies and put some in there. We also got some more cars....cuz with 2 boys there are never enough. We also picked up a few new books. Just enough. Not too much. They'll love it no matter what!

Have a wonderful Easter!

No matching outfits? I don't think I can be your friend anymore! Just kidding of course, my girls don't match this year either. It's hard when they get older.

I have banned easter grass in my house, after three years of recycling the same grass, but complaining of picking it up for days after Easter.
