As you can tell by yesterday’s Wordless Wednesday photograph, my flowers are in bloom. I love having my own flowers. I don’t kill too many though I currently have a transplant gone awry because I let the flower in question sit too long in the sun before I got it into the ground. I’m thinking, almost a week into the actual transplant process that she might not be saved. We’ll see.
But, yes, I love having flowers in a flower garden in front of my house. I like pruning the flowers. I like watering the flowers. I like weeding the garden itself. I like sitting there and staring at my handy-work (even though FireDad does the planting for the most part minus the aforementioned failed transplant). I find it relaxing. Some people don’t. I do. When I’m having a moment of tested patience with the boys, if I walk myself out to the flower garden and pick off some dead leaves, flowers or do some weeding, I feel a sense of calm wash over me. Perhaps I should take a flower basket everywhere I go.
So, today, with the rain still drizzling and my Grumpypants-wearing children in their beds for naptime, I wandered out with my camera. As that familiar feeling of calm settled into my soul, I marveled at the raindrops on the petals. The sound of the sprinkling rain tapping on the leaves. It was just relaxing. And reminded me that wherever we live in the future, a flower garden is an absolute must.
Let’s take a look at some of the nicer results from today’s rainy flower photoshoot.
This is yet another flower of which I don’t remember the name. It spreads nicely.

This is the coral-colored mini-rosebush I got the Mother’s Day after LittleBrother was born.

And these are my Asiatic Lilies, better viewed large.

I didn’t take any pictures of the yellow, forgotten-name flower that I posted yesterday because a severe downpour has them resting on the ground right now. I really should prop them up with a stick and twine. In our front flower garden we also have some geraniums and some hanging baskets under the front ledge. And some more flowers that even Grandma can’t remember what they are even though she gave them to us. And some other greenery. In our backyard, we have some day lilies that never make it to bloom because of the local wildlife finding them to be a fantastic snack.
I love my flowers. I love the fact that it’s not horribly hot today. I even love a good rainy day after a few days of disgusting humidity and nasty heat. While summer is not my favorite season, I sure do love the flowers that come along with it. There’s a silver lining to everything, I suppose, and this is my summer silver lining.
(Now if only it would stay 70 degrees for the rest of summer, I’d be delighted!)

Wow, it’s amazing how a shower can really make the colors in your garden pop, isn’t it? I wish I had your love for gardening, but I don’t. I have a poor, black thumb that manages to kill every plant in its path. But I do love enjoying *other* people’s gardens and yours sure is beautiful!
I have the flower in the first photo, but I don’t remember the name of it either.
You have pretty flowers.

These pictures are beautiful… and so are the flowers. I’m jealous that you CAN garden… my thumb is certainly not green!

Okay, I’m sure you’ve answered this question a hundred times already, but what kind of camera did you use? Your photos are amazing.
I have dreams of having a real flower garden, but I have a brown thumb. I’m determined to turn that around though when the kids are a little bigger.

I actually use a Canon Rebel XT. For my flower pictures, as it was raining, I messed around with both the macro setting and the “P” mode with the “shade” setting (which brings about a warmer tone that isn’t present on a gray, rainy day). I’d really like to upgrade my Canon but I don’t think I will be doing so until 2010.
And thank you.
As for brown thumbs, I thought I had one because I couldn’t grow tall roses like my mom. I still can’t. I just grow different things. I will tell you that those purple flowers, whatever they are, are impossible to murder. And they spread very well so it looks like you’re doing more than you are!
The best flowers are the ones passed down in the family!
Some of my hostas were my Nana’s. I love them. My mom has my Grammie’s irises and Nana’s whatchamacallits. Those old perennials are the best!
