FireDad and I have always had a love for shows that touch on various aspects of our lives. We’re excited about NBC’s new show for the Fall line-up, Trauma. When I first saw the promo, I had to pull up the website immediately. It didn’t quite look like a new version of ER. It didn’t quite look like a return to Third Watch (which we’re still grumpy about them taking that one off the air). So, what was it exactly.
To quote the site:
Like an adrenaline shot to the head, “Trauma” is an intense, action-packed look at one of the most dangerous medical professions in the world: first responder paramedics.
I also found the original promo that I saw on the television thanks to a YouTube account that has promos and commercials for 2009. (Great resource!)
What spoke to me was this line:
In an emergency, 99% of people run away from the danger. These are the people that run directly into it.
We know a little something about that in the FireFamily.
While he wears the title of FireDad on this site and works as a full-time, professional firefighter, he’s also a licensed paramedic. He actually started out in our current city working for the local ambulance company as an EMT-B. When we were first dating, he was going through his training to become a full paramedic which made for a difficult time scheduling time together. (We were two hours apart at the time.) He still works for the ambulance company when they need an extra paramedic. And while small-city life is less dangerous at times than this show’s blurb (one time, they had to respond to a truck of cows that had tipped over), it’s still busy as all get out.
While I know the show is likely to be unrealistic in various ways and full of medic cliches, we’re still going to tune in. Why? Well, one promo go to me. In fact, it got to me so much that I rewound (is it really winding if it is a DVR) the DVR and recorded the promo. It was that good.
People ask me how I do it, how I get through those moments when everything is on the line. It’s simple. I think about my children, about coming home to them. And the rest, the rest just comes easy.
So, I’m a complete sucker for anything that mentions family and coming home. What can I say?
We’re hoping that this show is longer lived than the short-lived (one season) TNT show, Saved. FireDad and I truly enjoyed that show and were quite displeased when it ended abruptly. We still talk about what we think happened when the ambulance crashed in the last scene of their last episode. We’re happy to see the lead actor, Tom Everett Scott, on another NBC show (Southland) that is, thankfully, returning this fall. Of course, NBC had him shot at point blank range in their season finale last year. I think the writers of all shows hate me.
We’ll be tuning in to NBC on Monday, September 28 at 9pm to catch the premiere of Trauma. I’m hoping it’s a good show. It looks good thus far. We’ll let you know our opinions as the season progresses. (As a side note, don’t sit with the site open because the sirens in the background will send your three-and-a-half year old running to the window yelling, “DADDY!” Whoops.)

As a side note, we just wrote a review of a product that may be of interest to firefighters, paramedics and their families. Bags made of recycled fire hose, including laptop bags! Thanks to a company named Feuerwear, we were able to review one on Stop, Drop & Review.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.

I saw a preview yesterday for this show. It looks really good.
Being married to a “copdad”, I have high hopes for this one too. The promos have looked really good. Lets hope!

I love reading your blog! I am dating fireman so it’s good to read what you write. My fireman is also still bummed that they took “Third Watch” off the air.
