I’ve done fire drills with my girls at home. They know our “safe spot” to meet after they leave the house is across the street at our neighbor’s. But Gracie always asks, “What if Jimmy’s house is on fire?” And I give her a new house to meet at. “And what if that house is on fire?” I know she’s a planner, but I can’t help being equal parts amused and horrified by the neighborhood inferno that she envisions.

Question for you: How do you keep the boys from having fears/nightmares about fires? My little guy is F.R.E.A.K.E.D. out at the idea of a fire, losing everything, people and cats dying….

It’s hard to balance teaching preparedness without causing more fear. Any suggestions?
