This week’s You Capture challenge was to tell a story that makes us happy. I had every intent to take a favorite book of ours and take pictures regarding our view of that story and why it makes us happy. But December caught me off guard and, instead, I went with a funny/happy story that happened while we were working on Day 2 of our Advent projects.

It may look like TheBrothers are playing with the Little People Nativity Set but apparently there’s a whole other story to the coming of the Christ child. Read and view on…

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a camel! Flying through the air in the general direction of a manger in the middle of a carpeted field, apparently not far from a large castle with a humongous lit tree in the far off distance.

Bird, Plane, CAMEL!

The camel takes notice of a Wise Man and decides that he is not all that wise. He knocks him over with his spittle. Then he notices the stable. He begins to edge toward it. Ever…

Here He Comes

so…

Oh No

slowly.

Climbing the Stable

Being the amazing camel that he was (remember the flying?), he began to climb the stable. You see, this particular camel had always wanted to be the important part of some story. I mean, he had such amazing talents. Camels, however, were always given very minor parts in the story of Jesus’ birth. He didn’t want to take the place of the newborn Savior. He just wanted someone to give him more than a passing look. As such, he set his sights on…

The Angel Rejoices, Kind Of

… the angel atop the stable. The one who told the shepherds, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:10-11) Sure, it always looked glamorous and moving when a white robed, halo-laden angel made the proclamation but the camel just wanted to say it. Just once.

Victory Is Mine!

And so he did. Of course, his after thought was, “VICTORY IS MINE!”

Or Is It Mine?

Or, wait, was that LittleBrother’s final thought?

Thanks for reading and viewing our Advent-related story. I took some major liberties with the actual telling a story part but, really, the whole process made me happy. Playing with the Nativity set with my boys made me happy. Snapping the pictures. Laughing at the camel in the angel’s spot. Watching the joy on their faces. Watching them play together. This whole season. Despite parenting alone this week and next, I’m so happy. I’m sure there are many other great stories over at I Should Be Folding Laundry today. Go take a look. Next week’s You Capture challenge is: Lines. Ooh, challenging. Off I go to find some lines.

Great shots! I love a nativity that the kids can play with. I have been tempted to buy that set, but my kids are a bit old for it. Maybe I’ll just play with it! :)
Thanks for stopping by my blog. The nativity that you commented on was a hand me down from family, but years ago I found some similar pieces at The Magic Cabin.

That? Was adorable!! I frequently make little books for the girls with contruction paper and staples. SOmetimes they illustrate and dictate the story to me (which I copy down), sometimes I get all crazy and let them glue in magazine pictures and see what hilarious tales they invent. I am definitely going to do an advent book with them and see how the story changes. Thanks for the idea!

(P.S. – about the lines…it made me think about how often I’m fascinated by the lines that have begun to show up on my hands and how all of a sudden, my hands look just like my mom’s. Can’t wait to see what you capture!)
