Tonight is opening night of our Spring Show. If you’ve read my blog for at least a year, you know that I’m a musical theatre geek. And, yes, I love the show Glee. I’m living the adult version of the show with less Beyonce and cheesier costumes right here in Ohio as well. And I love every moment of it. Or, almost every moment. We were still choreographing on Monday. Stressful much?

Our theme this year is American Pie: The Music That Changed a Generation. Having just turned 29, I wasn’t alive when these songs were number one hits but I was raised with this music. My parents are quite awesome and made sure I was exposed to a wide range of music. That said, I am so very, very, very glad that I never had to dress like this in real life.

Hippie Me

Oh yeah. I’m super groovy.

That wig is fabulous. I’m thankful that Michelle Black let me borrow it. It’s just frizzy and fro-y enough to be fantastically hippified when paired with a great band around my forehead (though I think I need flowers, don’t you?). The shirt is actually an authentic period piece made by Mom Outnumbered’s grandma for her uncle back in the day. What that means is that it is made of real polyester and that it doesn’t breathe. At all. I am a sweaty mess by the end of the second act. Sweaty. Mess.

And I’m loving it. Though I am missing the boys again this week as I did during show week last year. Turns out that my solo is sounding lovely as well as I got a nice mention in the preview writeup in the newspaper today.

Happily, my firefighter husband will be in the fifth row this evening to cheer me on. I have friends and family coming on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. There will be the inevitable let down next week, of course. After four months of rehearsals and a week of non-stop singing and dancing, my schedule will suddenly clear. It will be great and it will be sad all at once.

I have enjoyed myself this year. I hope, schedule wise, to be able to enjoy it for another year starting again in the fall. I do know that I’d totally wear this wig just about anywhere. It’s a fabulous conversation starter. Just make sure I’m not wearing that shirt. It’s likely to smell awful by the end of the weekend. (Hooray for Febreze. Review of that coming soon!)

(Locals can catch the show at the Scottish Rite tonight at 8pm, tomorrow at 8pm and Sunday at 3pm. Be sure to say hi after the show if you show up!)
