About the Site
This website -slash- blog officially launched on January 1, 2008. FireMom & FireDad were looking for a new address on the web and came up with this one. They previously ran a website -slash- blog for three and a half years. Deciding to scrap it all and make a fresh start, they decided to let the old archives go and just start fresh.
The name of Stop, Drop and Blog was chosen by FireMom after a few weeks of heavy deliberation. That’s right. She thought about it in the middle of the night. She thought about it over dinner. She made other people think about it. And one day, BAM! There the name was! Of course, as a Fire(Department)Family, the reasoning behind the name choice is quite simple to understand. It’s catchy. It’s kind of funny. And it wasn’t taken! Bonus! The current tagline (Is that a fire siren or a child wailing?) is appropriate with a newborn and a cranky, terrible-two-year-old in the house. Between unexpected fire calls, unexpected meltdowns, and breastfeeding on demand, this household has gotten kind of noisy. Bring earplugs.
The site is hosted by SurpassHosting. FireMom chose this host for a few reasons. Why? #1) She can’t pass up an awesome sale. #2) The previous website -slash- blog host was having an extraordinary amount of downtime, whereas the Chronicles blog, also hosted by Surpass, had only been down once in ten months. And so, saving money plus better service was a real no brainer decision. She can’t say enough about Surpass’s customer service, either. Totally awesome.
The layout, Nature’s Highlight, is a free WordPress theme customized by FireMom for the FireFamily’s purpose. The theme can be downloaded on this site. We decided to go with a simple, two column theme this time around; three columns were making my brain hurt. The background, is used with permission from this website. The pictures on the right side of the header were taken by FireMom. They rotate when you force a refresh or return to the website. Try it. Ctrl +f5 forces a refresh. Some plugins currently in use are FlickRSS (edited to remove linkability), Comment Email Responder (so, if you comment, you might get an e-mail from me), MiniPosts2 (for our Asides), and of course, Akismet (how can you survive blogdom without Akismet?).
