What I’m Wearing to BlogHer ’10 – Evening
I have finalized my day outfits. As I suspected, more cropped pants, more comfy shirts, more fun jewelry. All with flats. Very me. Evening is where I like to have a little fun, try new things and stick to a few known-to-work old tricks.
I wanted this dress from Mod Cloth. Desperately. But decided not to buy it. Because I’m way thrifty. I also made a deal with myself that if X thing happened, I’d splurge. 1/2 of X thing happened but the price on the dress didn’t drop, so I didn’t splurge. I’m proud of myself.
What I’m wearing:
Thursday Night: a long-ish (calf-ish) summer sundress in a really fun print with very fun colors (red, turquoise, navy, black and white) and some black sequins for some oomph… with a black shrug sweater. If you attended the breakfast at 77 Kids after Do Good Day in Pittsburgh, you’ve already seen this outfit. Trade out flip-flops for cute black flats, add in different makeup and, voila, evening fun. It’s a little more casual than some might be wearing. But it’s way comfy, way breezy and way me. Win. $12 for the dress. Win again.
Friday Night: a knee length sheath in black and white (oh no! white in NYC! I don’t care!) with a fantastic belt, an Audrey neckline complete with button detail. I tried this on while shopping with my friends. When I came out of the dressing room, they all said, “This is it.” As I’m being honored at the Voices of the Year Gala, I thought I’d look spiffy. Add same black shoes from last night (don’t tell the fashion police) and some earrings and, voila, I’m done. I got this on sale for $35.
Saturday Night: a just-past-the-knee black v-neck sundress with silver beading detail at the waist and straps. If this dress had no detailing, it would be boring. But it’s wow. And it was $8, because I’m thrifty. I may wear some black sandals with this piece if I remember to get my toenails done between now and then. Otherwise? Same black shoes.
I obviously shop the sale/clearance rack. I am also not afraid to reuse a dress that I know works for me. My dresses are comfortable, form flattering and, ultimately, totally match my personality. I really, really would have loved to have found a green dress (like the one above, sigh), but green is never the most popular evening dress color. Life goes on.
