Hillshire Lunches for Us, Hooray!

I just took BigBrother shopping for lunch-foods for Kindergarten (KINDERGARTEN!) this past week. It made me nauseated, but he was very excited. I reminded him that he needed to pick healthy foods — fruits and veggies everyday! I reminded him that snacks should be easy to eat and not overly sugary but that some sugar was okay. And, really, the main thing I reminded him of was that Mommy is not a morning person and to keep it easy, yo.

He laughed. That kid laughed at me. Because he’s a morning person. I imagine him someday making a five course meal for his Kindergartener to take on the first day of school. We’re totally different people.

For his sandwiches (or wraps or flat-outs, as he has reserved the right to pick on any given day), he wants peanut butter and jelly, turkey and cheese, ham and cheese, or salami and cheese. I asked him if he ever wanted mustard on his deli selections and he told me he would let me know. He sounded so old. I obliged and bought him his deli meats, because what’s easier than throwing deli meat on bread (or a tortilla or a flat-out)? Nothing. He has nixed tomato on his sammiches (but they get soggy in a lunch box anyway) but hasn’t ruled out lettuce. My kids are unique.

I’m pleased that we have come to an understanding (grapes and Cuties for fruits, cucumbers and carrots for veggies) about what works for his lunches. I’m sure some other kids will have some stuff that looks more appealing, but hopefully we’ve taught him enough about good foods that we won’t have an “I WANT JUNK FOR LUNCH” issue in two weeks. Ahem.

Yet another funny commercial:
