Mom’s Breakfast Club: Finishing Up Summer in Style
This is sponsored content by BlogHer and Kelloggs.
The end of summer is looming. In fact, if our oldest was going into Kindergarten instead of Pre-K, he’d be starting school this week. As such, we are trying to cram in some last minute bits of fun while the weather is still (very) warm.
In fact, next week we’re heading to the beach for our annual summer vacation. We normally go this week, but scheduling woes pushed us back a week. Really, that’s okay. We’ll be ending our summer vacation in multi-generational vacations style, complete with grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, a beach house, the ocean and hopefully a little bit of relaxation. I think we may throw in some geocaching, some surf fishing and a bit of exploring as well.
In addition to getting ready for school, we’ll be trying to do some fun things here at home before we leave. We have a few day and evening fishing trips planned to various lakes and rivers around the area. We didn’t get as much geocaching done as we wanted to earlier this summer, so we’ve been scoping out some new caches both in our city and surrounding areas.
I have some fun meals planned for all of the great produce available at our Farmer’s Market as well: lots of corn on the cob (grilled is our favorite right now), some zucchini recipes and lots of things with fresh, delicious tomatoes. While veggies might not sound fun for kids, this summer has been a turning point in eating for our boys. They’re enjoying eating meals on the deck and having their snacks outside.
Soon it will be rainy and cold and even snowy outside. As such, we just have plans to be outside. It’s what we love, what we long for during those long, cold months of winter. Hopefully we can make some quality memories in the process as these days of summer wind down.
What are your plans for the rest of your summer? Do you have any specific plans to send the summer out with a bang? I am just trying to spend every second doing Amelia’s favorite things before school starts.
My kids go back to school one week from tomorrow. This week is dedicated to tying up all the loose ends of summer.
We will wrap things up with an end of summer breakfast celebration the day before school starts. I’ve invited a bunch of moms & kids to my house for breakfast at 7:30 the day before school starts. The thinking is that we all have to practice getting up for the bus anyway, we may as well suffer together.
I plan to buy all the cereal we never let our kids eat and have plenty of caffeine available for the moms. Should be a good time.

School for Kiddo starts on Monday. This week has been spent on last minutre crap like eye doctor visits, finishing back to school shopping, etc. We do have Meet the Teacher on Thursday night along with the Back to School party at church. Next Sat. we are headed to San Antonio for a cousin’s birthday party. We didn’t do much this summer compared to others for a variety of reasons.
Kids start school on Thursday of this week and I started a new job on Monday. After being unemployed for 5 months, having a job now is the “biggest” bang we could end the summer with
I am a teacher so my summer is officially over. The teachers started back yesterday.
Our last-minute adventure was to head down to San Antonio for the weekend and go to Sea World. It was a blast!

We are heading up to Lake Erie on Thursday. We did this last year the weekend before school started and found it was a nice way to end the summer. So in hopes of making a family tradition off we go again. We will bike, swim, geocache and make fun deserts over a camp fire
I love family traditions!
Have fun on your vacation and we will be coffeeing before you know it!
Well school started here already, unfortunately I was sick the last two weeks so we didn’t do anything really fun then
We did do a lot of swimming, some really cool (free!!) events at the library and take in some free movies at the theather though haha no money to do anything awesome like the beach which is sad
During the last days of summer, I visited the farmer’s market and I am cooking up a storm!
I will be going for an over night at the local casino resort.

Getting together with a few other families for a BBQ – good food, good friends, good fun!
School started today for my pre-K kiddo. We are planning a fun weekend to celebrate going back to school with a trip with friends to our favorite restaurant and play time at a local play place for kids. Otherwise, our summer is winding down…too quickly!
Going to the water park to cool off in this horrible heat, and taking my daughter and her friend out to do something special
summer movie today, and swimming tomorrow
enjoying sleeping in!
I’m 9 months pregnant so I plan to stay indoors!!
I plan to take a few extra days off from work in September to relax and celebrate my Sept Birthday!
We will be going to the zoo once more this summer and hitting the water parks a few more times!
