Review: Bing’s Teacher Appreciation Website
We have been lucky thus far in that BigBrother has had two wonderful teachers for his first two years of preschool. (Due to when his birthday falls, he’ll attend preschool for three years.) In my experience, I know that a good teacher can make or break a child’s schooling experience. I was blessed with a series of great teachers over the years.
One that made a huge difference in my life was my high school choir teacher. She not only encouraged me to push myself harder than what was required of me but she gave up her lunch hour with frequency to spend time with me when I needed extra help. She knew when I wasn’t giving my all and all but demanded that I try harder on those days. She also acknowledged the importance of academics and involvement in areas outside the practice room. She remains a bright spot in a sometimes tumultuous high school career.
That’s why I love Bing’s Teacher Appreciation website. You can visit the site, share a story about your favorite teachers and then use a $1 per-comment-code (up to five per user) at DonorsChoose.org. If you’re not familiar with DonorsChoose, I suggest you take a look at that site as well. Over the past few years I have donated money to various classroom projects submitted by teachers who have a heart for their students. Current projects include art supplies for urban youth, readers on a mission and a classroom garden. With school districts all over the country cutting funding, helping out teachers and classrooms is a great way to get involved and ensure that our children are receiving a quality education.
If your school doesn’t know about DonorsChoose yet, the summer time would be a great time to drop them a note, explain the process to them and give them some time to brainstorm what they might need for the coming school season. Remind them to let you know if they submit a project so that you can get involved with spreading the world via social media!
I encourage you to go ahead and visit Bing’s Teacher Appreciation website and get to commenting today. Then don’t forget to donate! You could make a difference in a student’s life!
