#SOCsunday I’m glad Fadra created Stream of Consciousness Sunday, because I’ve got nothing else today. I’m out of energy. My friends and I went shopping today, and if it wasn’t for this meme, I would totally have given up on the concept of NaBloPoMo today. Thank you, Fadra.

I took my friends on our annual shopping pilgrimage to the Grove City Outlets today. BigBrother recently had another growth spurt and was sporting both flood-length pants and shirts with sleeves that were somewhat hilarious. I’m thankful that I had enough foresight to purchase some jeans for him on sale during our spring trip so that he had something to wear. At the end of today’s trip, I feel confident in saying that he’s officially set for the season.

Shopping for the boys was, as per usual, a disappointment. Aisle upon aisle of colorful, fun, in-style things for girls and just zilch when it came to selection for boys. It’s navy blue or red. And in big boys, it’s skater stuff or nothing. Thankfully, Gymboree had some great firefighter stuff carried over from last year in some new styles and colors. Children’s Place came through with a few dress shirts and some great thermals — which I find good for layering or wearing alone. Carter’s was a huge disappointment. I tried to steal a shirt from Osh Kosh — totally an accident and I did end up paying for it — but it was only because I decided not to buy an ugly flannel and forgot I had another shirt draped on my arm. It’s just so hard to find clothing for boys. Frustrating!

It was a fun day though, and I introduced Mandy to Primanti Brothers. I also found a few nice things for myself. The day was a success — even if my back does hurt very badly now. The things we do for our children!

This was my 5 minute Stream of Consciousness Sunday post. It’s five minutes of your time and a brain dump. Want to try it? Here are the rules…

  • Set a timer and write for 5 minutes only.
  • Write an intro to the post if you want but don’t edit the post. No proofreading or spellchecking. This is writing in the raw.
  • Publish it somewhere. Anywhere. The back door to your blog if you want. But make it accessible.
  • Add the Stream of Consciousness Sunday badge to your post.
  • Link up your post on Fadra’s post.
  • Visit your fellow bloggers and show some love.

NaBloPoMoI’m participating in NaBloPoMo. Sometimes I’ll use the prompts. Sometimes I won’t. Today I will.

I love the writing of writing.

Even before my love of photography or my interest in all things computer and then Internet, I loved writing. I was that girl with four journals, two notebooks and random scraps of paper stuffed here and there; each contained a thought, a poem, a moment, my words. I wrote to write. Non-stop. I got in trouble in both middle and high school for writing when I should have been listening. I wrote all the time.

Now I write for various reasons. Writing pays my bills. Writing heals me. Writing is fun, is hard, is challenging, is easy. Writing is an escape. Writing grounds me. Even though I have other passions — my photography, reading, cooking, sleeping, reading others’ writing on the web — I return to writing when I need to settle down, refocus. I come back to writing when I need to reevaluate where I am, where I’ve been and where I’m going.

It has taken years for me to settle into the fact that I am, at heart, a writer. I’m many other things as well, but I’ve always been a writer. As I continue on this journey, I am finding it most important to remember that what I love about writing is writing. Even when the deadlines loom and the new prospects are scary and the race is hard — I love writing.

[Are you participating in NaBloPoMo? Let me know! I'd love to stop by your posts this month.]
